Sierra Club interview 9/25/09

To express your concern re the handling of coal combustion waste at the San Juan Mine, contact James O'Hara, Mining & Minerals Division of the NM Energy, Mineral and Natural Resources Department 476-3413, jim.ohara @ state.nm.us. Disposing of the toxic wastes from the burning of the coal at the San Juan power plant by dumping them back into the surface mine creates both water and air pollution. The mining company's permit should not be renewed until an acceptable plan to deal with these wastes has been drawn up.
